What is your passion about your community? Fayetteville Forward Action Groups provide an opportunity for you to pursue your passion and at the same time contribute to Fayetteville’s economic vitality and quality of life. The City of Fayetteville invites you to join this active and award-winning community program. There are 11 Action Groups in Fayetteville Forward, with each having a seat on the Fayetteville Forward Economic Accountability Council (FFEAC), that Fayetteville residents are invited to participate in to work together in moving Fayetteville forward. In July 2019, the Fayetteville City Council voted to extend eligibility to serve on City Boards, Commissions and Committees to all Fayetteville residents who are legally authorized to live or work in the US, removing the previous requirement that applicants be registered voters. This opens up opportunities for foreign-born residents of Fayetteville to get involved in city government on a level not previously accessible.
Only registered voters within the limits of Fayetteville are eligible to serve on the following:
- Fayetteville Public Library Board of Trustees
- Historic District Commission
- Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport Authority
- Planning Commission
- Civil Service Commission
- Energy Improvement District No. 1
There are a number of volunteer opportunities throughout the City where residents can give back to their community, learn more about City governance and services, and make connections with like-minded people.
City of Fayetteville Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer at the Animal Shelter: The city Animal Shelter needs volunteers to for a host of tasks, including walking and bathing dogs, cleaning kennels, socializing cats, photographing pets available for adoption, becoming a pet foster owner, assisting at adoption events, and spreading awareness about the great pets available at the shelter for adoption.
Become a Trail, Park, or Bike Volunteer: The Parks and Recreation department needs volunteers to assist visitors on the City's trails, help remove invasive species from parks and greenways, assist in the maintenance and clean-up of parks and trails, and help out with race events.
Join a Community Garden: There are several city-sponsored Community Gardens in the City, or you can start your own.
Become a Public Library Volunteer: Library volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to: outreach, Friends Bookstore assistant, shelving DVDs, tour guide, pulling patron book holds, and outdoor gardening.
Volunteer at the Yvonne Richardson Center: The YRCC offers many programs and many opportunities for volunteers ages 14 and up. The Center posts all of their volunteer needs on GivePulse.com. You can log in with your university email, facebook account or email address.
Volunteer at the Fayetteville Public Schools:
Join the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO): Each school has a volunteer Parent Teacher Organization that organizes various activities and programs for the school. Join your child's PTO and look into what opportunities there are to get involved at their school. You can also speak directly to your child's teacher to see if he or she needs additional help in the classroom or for special events.
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students): Watch DOGS is the father-involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father-figures to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security. Contact your child's school to see if there's a Watch DOGS program there.

Your input is important to us! Fayetteville's residents have always been an active and engaged group who care passionately about their community. The City of Fayetteville is committed to providing ample opportunities for city residents to provide feedback about the many City projects and initiatives underway at any given time.
To facilitate the conversation, the City created Speak Up Fayetteville: an online community engagement portal that offers the public an opportunity to contribute ideas, complete surveys, participate in forums, register areas of need, and ask questions about City projects. Anyone with an email address can participate! Just complete a one-time site registration by providing a screen name and email address, then answer a few questions about yourself, and then you can come back as many times as you like to give us your opinions!
