Installation of a traffic signal or a roundabout to manage traffic; connection of sidewalks on either side of the railroad tracks near the intersection.
Why is It Important?
This multi-lane 4-way stop is inefficient and difficult to traverse safely. The adjacent railroad tracks complicate the intersection design, and will increase the cost of a traffic signal significantly due to the hardware and software needed to connect the railroad and street signals. Therefore, a roundabout is being considered as an alternative.
What is the Current Status?
The Arkansas State Department of Transportation has approved the warrant for a signal (click here to view), which is the first step in permitting required through ArDOT. The roundabout concept has also been reviewed by ArDOT (click here to view). Review by Arkansas & Missouri Railroad (AMRR) is in progress. A final decision on the concept will be made once the costs of the railroad crossing are provided by AMRR.
When Will it be Completed?
Construction is planned to be completed by 2022.
How is it Funded?
Funding for the project comes from the Bond issue that voters approved in April 2019.
